Places of interest near our apartments
MIJAS:
Situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol, the municipality of Mijas is made up of three urban centres, which are: Mijas Pueblo, situated at the foot of the Sierra, 430 m above sea level, Las Lagunas, which is the most modern part of the municipality, linked to Fuengirola, and La Cala, which is situated by the sea, with more than 12 km of coastline, offering a large number of beaches to suit all tastes and housing our renowned beachfront flat development, Mi Capricho.
Looking beyond the beach, Mijas is one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia, due to its location, in the heart of the mountains, and because it retains the typical charm of the Andalusian white villages. The beautiful picture of endless white houses climbing up the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas, contrasts with the intense green of the pine trees, offering one of the most recognisable and picturesque images of Andalusia.
Mijas is another of those villages that bring the happiest of smiles to our faces. For the white, the labyrinthine, the flowery, the high and the viewpoints. And, of course, for Sancho Panza's friends, the donkeys. This beautiful municipality is also the birthplace of the donkey-taxis, one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area and one of the best options for exploring its streets.
ANOTHER DESTINATION TO DISCOVER: BENALMÁDENA.
When we think of Benalmádena, almost everyone thinks of Puerto Marina, a beautiful marina and a leisure and entertainment centre full of restaurants, bars, terraces, shops of all kinds and shopping centres, which attract more than 7 million tourists every year; but there are many curiosities to discover in just a few square kilometres.
One of them is the Colomares Castle, a modern work built by a surgeon who was in love with architecture and history and who dedicated all his efforts and money to build this original castle dedicated to the Discovery of America and Christopher Columbus.
The Enlightenment Stupa, the largest Buddhist temple in the West, which was built in 2003 and created as a monument to peace, prosperity and harmony in the world. It is an ideal place to relax and meditate at a height of 33m, with a beautiful view of the city. There is also a butterfly farm next to it.
NERJA: A TOWN WITH A MOORISH PAST, SURROUNDED BY WILD BEACHES AND GREEN MOUNTAINS.
Nerja is a town nestled in a natural setting of great beauty, where the Sierra de Almijara mountain range plunges abruptly into the sea, forming the Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs, and giving rise to this beautiful town of incredible beaches and practically untouched coves.
What was once a small fishing village is now a thriving tourist centre with all the original charm and character intact.
But what is there to see in Nerja?
One of the symbols of Nerja is its unmistakable Balcón de Europa, famous practically all over Spain thanks to being the place where the well-known TV series Verano Azul was filmed several decades ago and of which all Spaniards have fond memories. The panoramic view from the top of the viewpoint alone is worth the trip.
Another must-see in the area are the famous Nerja Caves, located in the village of Maro and covering a total surface area of 35,484m2. A beautiful tour, lasting about forty minutes, through the bowels of the earth.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES?
The great location of our flats means that there are plenty of fun activities to do all around, from kayaking and snorkelling on the unspoilt beaches of Nerja, to enjoying a day at the water park in Mijas, or at the zoo in Estepona, Selwo Aventura.
All this is accompanied by a wide variety of restaurants serving all types of food, beach bars, shopping centres and shops.
There are endless activities to do and places to discover, are you up for it?
